Theme: Back by popular demand…We are Celebrating Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Cesar E. Chavez, Che Guevara, Abelardo “Lalo” Delgado, Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Llorona, Catrina & more! Icons/Super heroes, like Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman & El Dorado! Folk tales & Folk Heroes of kinds! Use your imagination…Who is your Super Hero?
Requirements: Work must be based on the cultural theme of theme listed above. Work must be professionally framed and ready to hang. Images need not be in cartoon form, but can be if you wish! Art must be suitable for all ages. Limit 4 pieces per artist. Please be mindful of sizes, we are expecting a lot of art! Artwork may be refused if deemed inappropriate or too large for the exhibit.
Mediums: All mediums are welcome and encouraged.
Entry fee: Members: $5.00 per piece or 4 for $16.00.
Non-members $7.00 per piece or 4 for $25.00

Drop off deadline: Sunday May 29th from noon –4:00 PM, 774 Santa Fe Drive. You may also drop off work ahead of time during regular gallery hours prior to 5/29/11

You are cordially invited to the “The Wild Bunch” art exhibit at the CHAC Gallery from May 4th – May 28th, 2011. An artist blend of old school and new school, unique and different stylings with no obvious theme save the collision of the styles of all these artists! From sculptures to paintings, Santos art to Muertos art, digital to metarealism. Featured Artists: Stevon Lucero, Al Sanchez, Robert Maestas, Carlos Sandoval, Rob Yancy, Michael Canada, Robert MArtinez, Jerry Jaramillo, and Jerry Vigil

CHAC is pleased to bring back the Espinozas!  Reuben will be showing his sought-after cast silver rings and silver-smithing with lapis, turquoise & other stones. Mardelle will show her dramatic stone sculptures, flowing bronze work, and her refreshing paintings." Be sure to stop in early in the month to get your first glimpse of choices!

 

 

This month at CHAC artist Shay Guerrero presents her new line of Dia de los Muertos Masks. Shay has been creating art since childhood in a wide variety of mediums; from 3D hand painted masks to painting, drawing and photography. All of her work is completely original and unique! Shay currently works as a professional Photographer and loves creating beautiful, affordable artwork for everyone to enjoy while celebrateing her Mexican heritage! Shay says, "My goal is to have a piece of my art hanging on as many walls as possible!"

 

Artist Rebecca V. Rozales focuses on human expression through the use of acrylic paint, pastel or any medium she pursues. As visitors walk through her visual window of expression they become aware of the relationship between art and life. Rebecca received a BFA from Metropolitan State College and teaches painting, drawing, pastel and will custom frame and print large format Giclee;s on canvas or other quality papers from her studio. Dan Muniz

It is the pristine countryside and Majestic Mountain peaks in the heart of Colorado that inspire the beautiful watercolour paintings of Dan Muniz. An avid fisherman and sports fan Dan tries to exude his passions in his work. Dan, through his own observations and the richness and passion his surroundings evoke, tries to share his visions and the feelings associated with them. Each brush stroke represents a view and a specific observation. Robert's interest in art ranges from painting bold contemporary abstract pieces to creating Native American representational paintings. Though not Native American, Robert has a keen interest in portraying a proud and illustrious people. His favorite medium in acrylics which he applies most often to canvas. Calling all kids for a fun afternoon of painting with a CHAC member artist! Hear the Mayan/Aztec legend of how the world got its color. See the authentic Mexcian rag doll, Xochiquetzal tell her version. Paint, paint, paint with watercolor as you enjoy the colors of the world.  This is a great way to celebrate spring. Chile Harvest Poster Call for Entries

The Chicano Humanities and Arts Council and the City of Lakewood in partnership in the production of the 2011 Chile Harvest Arts Festival is now accepting entries for the event’s promotional and commemorative poster. The selected artwork will be used in some of the 2011 event’s official advertising and promotions in addition to the production of a limited edition poster to be sold at the festival. The competition is open to amateur and professional artists and there is no entry fee. The selected artist will be awarded a free booth in the 2011 festival ($150 value).

Thank you to all of you who came to celebrate spring with us at the garden party! We had a wonderful time enjoying the day with everyone. Our backyard looks phenomenal thanks to all of you! We are ready for some fun in the sun on the patio this summer through First Fridays and other special events. CHAC thanks Tony Vecchio and King of the Kitchen Catering for the generous donation of delicous homemade food that fed us all a fabulous lunch! CHAC also extends a heart flet thank you to Fred "Cruzilla" Tayyara of Cruz Tequila for the kind donation of Tequila for the Tequila tasting!

Don't forget that the patio is open available for birthday parties for children and now adults as well! What a pleasurable setting to enjoy with friends and family, whether you are a child breaking a birthday pinata or an adult enjoying a cool refreshing drink on the patio all parties come with the option of art making activities. CHAC will be offering kid's classes again this summer Thursday mornings from 10:30-12:00.  All classes will include refreshments, art making, and a story. Register today.
