CHAC was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a location to explore visual and performance art and promote and preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts. The gallery at 772 Santa Fe Drive in Denver’s Westside is a cultural center that displays art, and provides arts education. We are pleased to be offering 15 different cultural art workshops. The Chicano Humanities & Arts Council 772 Santa Fe Dr. Denver, CO 80204 303-571-0440 HOW CHAC HELPS YOUR STUDENTS’ EDUCATION The arts play a vital role in every child’s education. Studies show a strong correlation between learning in the arts and mastering the fundamental cognitive skills and abilities necessary to do well in other core subjects, including reading, writing, and mathematics. Learning through the arts has been shown to be particularly beneficial for students from economically disadvantaged homes and to those at risk of not succeeding in school. CHAC is your dynamic resource to learn about the rich culture of our neighbors to the south, Mexico and our neighbors right here in the Denver area. The Denver metro area is home to many immigrants as well as Americans of Mexican and Indian descent. CHAC is your center for first hand cultural experience and expression. Students of Mexican heritage will be validated and find a place in the community akin to home. Ultimately this will heighten their ability to learn in the classroom. In addition, students of various culture heritages will come away with a greater appreciation of diversity and the fabric of the cultural make of the Denver area. Activities are geared for individual as well as group participation that builds self-esteem, social skills, cultural awareness and pride.
